    How it works

    1. Tick

Tap a country on the map, or tick it in the list. The search box finds a country by name.

    2. Count

Your number of countries, your share of the world and your continents update as you go.

    3. Share

One link carries your whole map. Send it to a friend and they see the same countries.

    How many countries are there?

There is no single answer. The United Nations has 193 member states. Add its two observer states, the Holy See (Vatican City) and Palestine, and you get 195, the number most travellers use.

This map lists 197: those 195, plus Taiwan and Kosovo. It is the same list the maglo app has magnets for. Your share of the world is counted out of 195 and stops at 100%.

    What counts as visited?

That is up to you. Most travellers count a country once they have left the airport: a layover does not count, a day trip does. Pick a rule and keep to it, and your number means something.

Keep your map on your phone

In the maglo app, every country you tick becomes an illustrated magnet. You stick the magnets on a fridge in your own 3D kitchen, add the date, a photo and a line to each one, and share the fridge as a story image.

    Questions about counting countries

Is there an interactive map that shows all the countries I've visited?

Yes. This page is one: tick the countries you have been to and the map colours them in, with your count and your share of the world beside it. It is free and needs no account. The maglo app does the same on your phone and turns each country into a fridge magnet.

How do I find out which countries I have visited?

Go through the list continent by continent and tick what you remember. Old passports, your photo library and booking emails help with the ones you are unsure about. The search box finds a country by name.

What app shows your travel history?

maglo shows your travels as a collection: a magnet on a fridge for each country, a world map of where you have been, and a passport that counts each continent. It does not track your location. You add the countries yourself, all at once or one trip at a time.

How do I keep track of places I visited?

Keep one list and update it after each trip. This map remembers your list in your browser. The maglo app keeps it on your phone, with the date, a photo and a line for each country.

How many countries are there in the world?

The United Nations has 193 member states, and 195 if you add its two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. This map lists 197 because it also includes Taiwan and Kosovo.

Is this countries visited map free?

Yes. The map is free, has no ads and needs no signup.

    Where is my list stored?

In your browser's local storage, on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. If you press Share, the link itself carries the country codes, so anyone with the link sees the same map.

Why can't I tick Greenland, Puerto Rico or Hong Kong?

The list has the 197 countries the maglo app has magnets for. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong are drawn on the map but are not separate entries.
