There are more than a dozen apps for marking where you have been. These eight are the ones people find first. Here is what each one's App Store listing says it tracks, how it shows your travels, and what it charges.

What is the best app to track countries visited?

It depends on what you want to keep. For a detailed record down to regions, cities or airports, been, Visited, Skratch, Pin Traveler and Mark O'Travel list those. To record a route while you travel, Polarsteps does that. If you want a collection you enjoy looking at rather than a statistic, maglo turns each country into a fridge magnet.

Is there a free app to track countries visited?

All eight apps in this comparison are free to download, and each sells upgrades. maglo holds 5 magnets for free. If you only want your number, the countries visited map on this site is free, works in the browser and needs no signup.

Which of these apps do not list a subscription?

On the US App Store on 13 October 2026, the in-app purchases of Countries Been, Mark O'Travel and Skratch named no weekly, monthly or yearly items. maglo Plus is a one-time purchase. been, Pin Traveler, Polarsteps and Visited listed weekly, monthly or yearly items.

How many countries are there to count?

The United Nations has 193 member states, or 195 with its two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. Apps differ: maglo counts 197, adding Taiwan and Kosovo.
